VINCENNES (WVUT) – The Vincennes Fire Department has received 18 new thermal imaging cameras through a grant.

Fire Chief Sonny Pinkstaff says they received the equipment through a grant from the Leary Firefighters Foundation.

Pinkstaff says the grant will enable them to equip each firefighter with a thermal imaging camera during their shift.  He also says they were able to obtain the thermal imaging cameras without having to provide a local match in order to obtain the grant.

The Denis Leary Firefighters Foundation was started by the comedian and film actor who portrayed a New York City firefighter in the FX series Rescue Me.

Pinkstaff says the foundation’s mission is to provide funding and resources for fire departments across the country. He says the thermal imaging cameras cost 2,000.
