Vigo County man booked for allegedly impersonating a police officer

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who’s previously run for public office.

Back on February 10th, the sheriff’s office believes a man entered the Hamilton Center wearing a coat that had a sheriff’s office insignia on the front and the word sheriff on the back.

An employee said the man identified himself as ‘John Wilson.’

He wanted to speak with the Hamilton Center about a jail inmate.

The staff at the Hamilton Center provided the sheriff’s office with the surveillance video.

Police were able to identify the man as Steve Ferree.

Ferree was charged with one count of impersonating a police officer.

He is due back in court on Tuesday.
