VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Word of mouth is what sent our Fork in the Road Crew to try out a different kind of burger at a hidden spot here in Terre Haute.
“I think a lot of people don’t know there is a food menu here,” explained Bruce Adelman, owner of Bohannon’s. “I think a lot of people just think it’s a sports bar.”
And it’s been there forever.
“It’s one of the oldest places in Terre Haute,” explained Bruce Adelman, owner of Bohannon’s “We feel that all our food is good. I mean we really work hard.”
Owner Bruce Adelman is very proud of the food menu here at Bohannon’s East, and the Fork in the Road Crew found out why
“You get a huge portion, a full plate full of onion rings, fries, hand cut fries, hand cut chips, the mushrooms are really good if you like fried mushrooms,” frequent customer, Terry Jones, told our crew.
All those sides are hand cut and made fresh daily.
But Terry is also a fan of the burgers. “I think they have some of the best tasting burgers in town.”
Two burgers got his attention right away.
“When I first saw it on the menu I kind of wasn’t all that sold on it, I didn’t think those ingredients together would go as well as it did. But they convinced me to try it and I did and I liked it.”
He’s talking about the peanut jalapeno burger. Bruce says the burger was born from a customer’s suggestion.
“It was driving me batty so I went down and bought some peanut butter, so then I created our own way doing it and I brought it out and they said that’s the best burger they’ve ever tasted.”
A half-pound ground chuck burger, special seasoning, sautéed onions, jalapenos, smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and of course peanut butter.
For more on the interesting menu you can find Bohannon’s located at 1728 Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute or you can call them at (812) 234-2638. And for families who cannot dine-in, they do offer carryout!
