TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The United States is producing more crude oil than ever.
With pipelines at capacity, more crude is being shipped by rail.
When you hear crude-by-rail, that may have you thinking about an accident involving crude oil tankers in Quebec, Canada.
That accident killed 42 and destroyed many buildings.
News of crude-by-rail coming through Terre Haute prompted our latest 10 on Your Side investigation.
“We’ve been notified through many avenues about the potential for crude oil to be shipped across the rails, and they wanted us to have firsthand knowledge of how to respond,” Stan Capobianco from the State Fire Marshal’s Office said.
On Tuesday, News 10’s Jon Swaner will bring us more from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, local haz-mat responders, and Indiana Homeland Security.
They’ll tell us how local responders are ready if we have a crude oil incident in Terre Haute.
